During Global Entrepreneurship Week, we hosted an insightful lecture titled “Smart SME Growth in Emerging Markets”, led by Ahmed Subhan, founder and CEO of Magnus Strategies & Solutions.
Ahmed introduced students to the key principles of sustainable SME growth in high-uncertainty markets, highlighting how strategic thinking, smart financing, and strong governance shape long-term business success.
Drawing on practical frameworks and real-world examples, he explained the importance of developing a solid business plan, selecting the right co-founders, understanding cultural compatibility, and creating a clear value proposition for target customers. Students also explored tools such as PESTEL analysis, stakeholder alignment, and risk management strategies essential for emerging-market environments.
In the second part of the lecture, Ahmed presented the SME funding ladder—from bootstrapping and micro-loans to angel investors and venture capital—while emphasizing the need to choose funding options that match the company’s business model and growth stage. He also outlined practical governance mechanisms, such as internal controls, documentation, and succession planning, which help protect resources and ensure organizational resilience.
Key message: Sustainable SME growth comes from combining the right strategy, the right financing, and the right governance systems.
We thank Ahmed Subhan for sharing his expertise and providing valuable insights to our students during this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week!
