Nordplus Horizontal project “Teaching and Learning in Multicultural Classrooms” visit to the Arcada University of Applied Sciences

Continuing the work on the Nordplus Horizontal project Teaching and Learning in Multicultural Classrooms, representatives of RISEBA University of Applied Sciences, the Estonian Entrepreneurship University of Applied Sciences, International School of Tallinn, UCL University College in Denmark and Vilnius University of Applied Sciences came to Helsinki from 2nd to 4th May, 2022, to visit the Arcada University of Applied Sciences.

The visitors were introduced to the learner-centered pedagogical approach and the collaborative approach to curriculum development and teaching used at Arcada, as well as its impressive diversity statistics. This study tour included the observation of a Research Methodology lesson where Arcada professors used a hybrid format to include virtual and in-person attendees, bringing about insightful discussions and exchange of practices among the visitors on the use of hybrid formats in a multicultural class.

The study tour participants also visited the university’s working spaces to understand how collaboration is stimulated among staff in open-space offices, they got to see the state-of-the-art facilities for student training in the medical field, and even met and interacted with Amy and Alf, two humanoid robots used in Arcada research studies on how to automate tasks that can support professionals in different areas.
