Strengthening Students’ Emotional Well-being through Forest Bathing Activities

On October 7 and 8, students from Vilniaus kolegija (VIKO) and students from the project partner Lithuanian Business College participated in forest bathing experiences organised as part of the State Studies Foundation-funded project “Student-to-Student: A Psychological Well-Being Support Program for Students of Lithuanian Higher Education Institutions”. The activities, organised by Association “Gyvo Žalio” brought together students from different study programmes, offering them an opportunity to step away from their daily academic routines and spend time in nature.

The forest bathing sessions were led by experienced practitioner who invited participants to engage mindfully with their surroundings, activate their senses, slow down, and dedicate time to being fully present in nature. During the activities, students took part in a variety of individual and group exercises designed to encourage observation of natural details, attentive listening to the sounds of the environment, reflection on personal well-being, and the strengthening of connections with both nature and fellow participants.

This experience contributed to the enhancement of students’ emotional and psychological well-being, helping to reduce stress, improve emotional balance, and promote conscious self-care. Time spent in nature and shared activities also provided opportunities for students to get to know one another better, strengthen interpersonal relationships, and foster a supportive academic community across different higher education institutions.
